Decide, commit, and win. Start now so you can crush 2024. Why wait? This is how you become elite in your field and in life. This is simple and not easy. Yet, this is what it takes to get what you want. At the beginning of 2022, I was 243 lbs with a 42-inch weight. As of today I weighed in at 196 lbs and my waist is down to 36 inches. Now I have been fat for 40 years of my life and the first 8 months of 2022 I just couldn’t beat the battle of the bulge.
I heard a podcast and the main theme was Decide, Commit, and Win. Of course, this led to a virtual fitness program and I bought in. At that moment I made the decision, committed to an outcome, and since then I have been winning physically. My A1C went from 13.1 to 8.4 and my daily blood sugar from 300+ to below 170 every day.
I have taken that same approach with my business my sales have grown. It is also important to understand to have a few targets rather than a lot. This has not been easy and I have had setbacks. Furthermore, there were plenty of times I wanted to quit. This is why you have to have a long-term outlook. I have been “fat” since I was 5 years old. That wasn’t going to change in six weeks.
The Decision Phase
Pick a target. What is the one thing that you can accomplish that will change your life? Get clear on that one thing. Write it down and let’s make it happen. But first, you have to Decide!
Decide: to solve or conclude (a question, controversy, or struggle) by giving victory to one side:
The first step is to decide. As the definition says to conclude or solve. When you make a decision you plant your flag in the ground. That is it. No turning back. The only thing to do is move forward.
The power of decision will change your life. Furthermore, when you pick a clear and concise goal there has to be a decision to fully obtain it. Wavering only leads to disappointment and dreams unfulfilled.
The Commitment Phase
Commit: to do; perform; perpetrate:
Once you decide on what you want the next step is to commit. Commit is an action word. This is where the doing comes in. For example, I made a decision to invest in the virtual training program. The commitment was following the program until my goals were met.
There is no toe dipping. Once you commit it is like burning the ships. No turning back and this scares people. Consequently, this is why most people fail. Also, with commitment, there is a time factor involved. How long will you keep going? Are you tracking your results to see what is working? Do you need to change course?
One thing I do see is people worry about not achieving their goal and hence the lack of commitment. This could bring up anxiety, stress, and fears. But clear Action beats anxiety. Action conquers fears. Action breeds evidence and evidence creates confidence. Make the decision and commit to seeing it through.
The Winning Phase
Win: to finish first in a race, contest, or the like; to gain the victory; overcome an adversary:
Here is the big secret. Once you decide and commit. You have already won. The toughest thing for most people is starting. Write that down as a mini-victory. Now you have to see it through.
Also, one thing to look out for is the time factor. Sometimes we fool ourselves into thinking it should come faster. You must hurry. Remember TTTT These Things Take Time.
My transformation took 14 months. It was not 6 weeks, 12 weeks, or 16 weeks of a miracle fad diet… this was a 14-month process and took 14 months to change which took 40 years to develop. The time factor is real and I do not want you getting discouraged if it is coming to you fast enough.
Do This Now
Let’s pick a major goal that you want to accomplish. I want you to be crystal clear on it. You can see, taste, touch, and smell it. Then just perform this simple process. I want you to:
Decide: make the decision to accomplish this goal. Plant your flag in the ground and do not waver.
Commit: Commitment is the vehicle to get you to the destination. That powered by your reason will guide you when the excitement of starting wears out.
Win: You have already won by deciding and committing. Now it’s your job to enjoy and learn from the journey.
Furthermore, track your progress and celebrate the mini victories until you succeed.
